The Arcadia/Bienville Parish Chamber of Commerce Office is located in
the
Arcadia Depot Museum, a prime downtown location that immediately gains
charm
from the local historic surroundings. With a friendly office staff,
enthusiastic Board of Directors, and active members, the Chamber exists
solely to assist potential and established businesses and to promote
tourism throughout Bienville Parish.
Its basic aim is to
inform and promote the well-being of these important growth industries.
Equidistant between the metropolitan hubs of Shreveport and Monroe,
Bienville Parish is well located in north Louisiana with a great labor
pool and an interesting historical background. The parish was named for
four term former Governor, Jean Baptiste Le Moyne, Sieur de Bienville,
who served during the French Colonial Period.
Northern Bienville Parish topography is
intersected by I-20, the location of Driskill Mountain, which is the
highest point in Louisiana. Prime fishing and boating opportunities are
provided by Lake Bistineau, Kpler Lake, and Mill Creek Reservoir. Vast
timber and water resources draw deer, duck, squirrel, and turkey
hunters from throughout the state during fall and winter hunting
seasons.
Many visitors to Bienville Parish are
interested in facts surrounding the Sailes Community which hosts a
stone marker at the scene of the demise of the notorious outlaws Bonnie
and Clyde. Area museums in Gibsland and Arcadia provide facts and
memorabilia about the notorious 1930's outlaws. Located in the
historical district in Arcadia are antique stores, which have
revitalized the downtown area. Visitors to the downtown area would also
be interested in original WPA murals painted on the walls of the U. S.
Post Office located on Railroad Avenue.
